The Fire District implemented the Roof Replacement Incentive Program in 2007 with a grant from the Nevada Division of Forestry. This successful program rewarded thirty homeowners with up to 9 hours of fuels reduction work upon replacement of their wood shake roof with new fire resistant materials.
Although the grant has expired, the District is pleased to be able to continue this valuable program with funds generated by the Fire Safe Community Fund, approved by the District's voters in 2008.
The requirements remain the same and are quite simple:
1) Return the application available below
2) Get a Defensible Space Inspection
3) Perform a minimum of 8 hours of your own defensible space work, raking pine needles, trimming trees, removing dead wood, etc.
4) Replace your old wood shake roof with new, Class A rated materials. (More information on roofing materials requirements are available from the Fire District)
If you have any questions or need additional information, call the Fire District at 775-588-3591 or email defensiblespace@tahoefire.com.
